Geocaching!

Today we went geocaching as one of the requirements for Steven's Arrow of Light. Sam, one of the kids in Steven's Weeblos Den went with us. We decided to try to find 2 caches today since the weather was so nice.

Here are the boys at the entrance to the Silver Creek nature preserve. I didn't even know this place existed, so it was nice to get here even if we don't find the geocache.

The area is a marshland so there are many bridges along the paved path though the park.
SUCCESS! Steven holds up the ammo box that serves as this geocache. Steven took a small basketball and Sam took a toy dinosaur, and we left a couple of pirate stickers.
Here they are with the open cache. This one was toy themed, so it was a good one to start the boys on.
Most of the information signs along the trail were missing, but we did come across one that was still there. It talked about the oak trees in the park.
Here we are at the trail-head leading into the Knobeloch woods. This trail was not paved and the cache was about half a mile off the trail. Yay for bushwhacking! lol
We stop to investigate a hollow log. This was definitely the more demanding hike.

Sam was the first to spot the small cache hanging on the side of the tree.

This one was just a small pill container wrapped in camo duct tape. There was a log to sign but no trinkets to exchange. When we finally got back to the car after only briefly getting lost in the woods, we had spent over 3 hours geocaching.

Steven will be finishing up Cub Scouts next month and will be making the transition into Boy Scouts. I am so proud of him!!!
