Pinewood Derby 500!
Last night we went to Steven's fist Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. Here are the pictures from the evening:
Steven's finished car. He picked the paint colors and paint scheme. He went with the number 53 because that is the fist year the Cub Scouts had a pinewood derby.
The driver of the 53 car gets psyched up before the race.
Some of the 53 car's biggest fans!
Hannah wishes Steven good luck!
The judges table.
The first half of the cars the boys constructed. Can you spot #53?
The other cars.
This is the track. It is all computerized. It has an electronic release switch and a sensor at the finish line that sends the results to the computer. Some of the races finished 1/1000 of a second apart.
The opening ceremony. We sang the National Anthem, there was an Air Force fly-over, and an opening prayer.
Steven gets wheeled out in the parade of drivers.
Steven and his den-mates prepare to start their engines!
Steven's car heading towards the finish line. All the cars got to race 3 times, once in each lane. Steven won his second race, but finished 2nd and 3rd in the other 2.
Steven posing after all the racing is done. He didn't place, but had lots of fun!
The 53 car on display as it enters retirement. Each boy got a plaque to hang their car on. They were all hand made by one of the den leaders.
